In 2022, people around the world need coaching more than ever before.

We have a hypothesis that Master and Professional coaches are not only highly-skilled, experienced and credentialed but they also bring very special attitudes to their coaching that sets them apart from other coaches.

Our research project seeks to discover what those X-Factor attitudes are and how they impact the field of professional coaching.

More about the study

Following Michelle Duval’s research in 2013 and 2018 asking the question can entrepreneurial success be predicted, Fingerprint for Success (F4S) has been committed to researching performance, wellbeing and human development in the future of work.

A previous research study aimed at answering the question “what are the most frequently cited competencies that contribute to the effectiveness of an executive coaching experience” produced 7 key competencies for a coach.

These were:

  1. Asking relevant, probing questions and getting the client to process their thoughts and ideas.
  2. Makes the coachee feel safe and can enable the coachee to trust the coach with issues of confidentiality.
  3. Challenges the coachee to think about new ideas and perspectives.
  4. Coaches the whole coachee and pays attention to the interaction between the coachee’s professional and personal life.
  5. Holds the coachee accountable for doing the work. Insists that the coachee takes action and create results.
  6. Is non-judgemental, caring and supportive of the coachee’s situation and needs.
  7. Helps the coachee to identify and set clear developmental objectives, goals and assignments.

As a professional and experienced coach, you would know that competencies and behaviour are driven by internal meanings, attitudes and motivations.

We want to take these insights to the next level and answer the question of “what are the internal drivers and motivations that contribute to the effectiveness of a coach” and this could be a game-changer for the global coaching community.

The 2nd F4S survey measures 48 cognitive biases (attitudes and motivations), our research goal is map this against the ICF’s core competencies to look for correlation between certain attitudes and skills.

This study will provide valuable data and insights that identify and distinguish the crucial cognitive biases (attitudes and motivations) of masterful and successful coaching.

Our goal is to ultimately raise the calibre of the coaching industry, the outcomes for coachees and accelerate the pace of human development, for everyone.

Who we are

For this study on coaching, we are studying some of the world’s leading master and professionally certified coaches that helps the entire field of coaching reach more levels of rigour and professionalism.
